Mechanical and Renewables.

Mechanical and Renewable

The mechanical and renewable division is at the heart of our business. TSG has been providing mechanical and renewable services for over 60 years. We design, install, commission, maintain and service a vast range of equipment in Private Housing, Social Housing and Commercial properties.

The projects which we deal with range from large Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Systems to single domestic heating installations. In all cases installations are carried out using TSG’s team of specialist engineers and electricians, co-ordinated by a highly qualified and experienced project manager or site manager.

Below are some of the services our Mechanical Division can provide:-

  • Boiler installation, servicing and commission (Gas, Oil, LPG, Solid Fuel)
  • Combined Heat and Power Systems
  • Air Conditioning System design, installation, commission and servicing >
  • Renewable installation, commissioning and servicing (GSHP, ASHP, Solar Thermal,Biomass)
  • Centralised and district boiler systems
  • Mechanical Heat Recovery Ventilation
  • Rain Water Harvesting

Renewable Energy

TSG strives to be at the forefront of new technologies, and have established strong relationships with the UK’s leading manufacturers of renewable energy systems.

Since 2010 we installed near 1500 Renewable Energy Installations local housing providers and the private sector. This has comprised of air source heat pumps, ground source, biomass, Mechanical Heat Recovery Ventilation, Solar PV and Solar Thermal  in both retrofit and new build properties.

TSG has been partnering with Housing Associations, Local Authorities and Social Landlords to implement large scale renewable energy installation programs for many years. This experience allows us to offer a fully bespoke and tailored solution as we work closely with both our new and existing clients to meet each organisation’s individual requirements and goals.

We were one of the first companies to gain MCS accreditation in the UK, which has helped TSG build strong relationships with the UK’s leading manufacturers attaining partner statuses with several due to our high standards of workmanship and commitment to the market.

This allows us to offer extended warranties and to be able to fully design, install and commission renewable technologies in house.

Our Role

We provide an initial analysis of the existing housing stock in the form of a bespoke report and presentation detailing the following for each individual property: -

  • Running cost of existing traditional off-gas heating systems (Oil, Gas, LPG and Direct Electric)
  • Estimate of running costs of the renewable technology being considered
  • Estimate of Carbon saved
  • Run cost savings on a property by property basis
  • Advise on any current funding available in all sectors.
  • Estimate of installation costs and total program costs.

TSG understands the importance of resident engagement and support that needs to be provided when considering or implementing a Renewables program. We assist in the following ways:-

  • Liaising with the residents committee
  • Manufactures mobile show room is available for projects for resident consultation
  • Dedicated Resident Liaison Officer
  • Prior to installation we agree start dates and conduct a survey on each individual property. We ensure that the residents are constantly informed on the works that are to be carried out and updated on progress throughout the installation.

What are Air Source Heat Pumps?

Air Source Heat Pumps are a tried and tested renewable form of heating your home, capable of meeting 100% of your heating and hot water requirements.

Air Source Heat Pumps work in a similar way to your refrigerator but in reverse. They extract energy from the outside air and convert it into hot water which then heats up your property using either radiators or underfloor heating systems.

Air Source Heat Pumps can work in extremely low temperatures - even at -15°C.

Air Source Heat Pumps are a tried and tested renewable form of heating your home, capable of meeting 100% of your heating and hot water requirements.

Why have a Heat Pump?

Are you off gas-grid? Tired of paying over the odds for your electric heating, coal boiler, LPG or oil? Air Source Heat Pumps provide a viable cost and carbon saving to aid a cleaner environment.

What Air Source Heat Pump should I use?

We deal with all of the leading manufacturers of Air Source Heat Pumps in the UK, and we are a Business Solutions Partners with Mitsubishi Electric and also a Sustainable Home Expert with Daikin which allows us to offer an extended warranty on our installations.

Why use TSG?

TSG strives to be at the forefront of new technologies, with accreditations such as TrustMark, MCS, PAS2030/19 along with working to the standards of PAS2035. We have won several nationally recognised awards from the National Renewables Awards, and we were awarded the "Heat Efficient Installer of the Year" and "Air Source Installer of the Year" and are widely recognised as a market leading installer within the renewables sector. TSG have been asked to attend events at the Houses of Parliament and the House of Lords for our views on the Renewables sector.

What's the Benefit of Installing Renewable Energy for Social Housing?

Installing renewable energy systems into a single dwelling has the benefit of increasing energy efficiency, cutting fuel bills, reducing carbon emissions and protecting the environment. For housing associations, local authorities and social landlords, these benefits can be multiplied across the housing stock, to protect your tenants from the growing issue of fuel poverty, whilst lowering carbon emissions.

What is Renewable Energy?

Renewable energy is that which is produced from natural resources, such as ground heat and solar light. It is possible to integrate renewable energy systems into the construction of new builds, or retro fit them into existing housing stock. Properties with renewable energy systems are able to generate a proportion of their heat and/or power from natural resources. This results in more affordable and comfortable properties for residents to live with the added benefit of reducing the risk of fuel poverty that is associated with a reliance on traditional off-gas grid solutions such as Oil, LPG and Direct Electric Heating systems.

What are Ground Source Heat Pumps?

Ground Source Heat Pumps capture heat in the ground. This heat can then be used to heat radiators, underfloor or warm air heating systems and hot water in your home. A ground source heat pump circulates a mixture of water and glycol around a loop of pipe - called a ground loop - this can either be a horizontal loop or if space is tight a vertical borehole. Even in winter months, the temperature below the ground remains warm, so this is a reliable source of heat.

What are Solar Photovoltaic Panels?

Solar Panels convert sunlight into electricity using photovoltaic cells. They can operate even on a cloudy day, although they are at their most effective in bright daylight. It is important to position them where light is at optimum levels and not being blocked by trees or other buildings to ensure they are able to perform effectively.

What are Solar Thermal Systems?

Solar water heating systems use solar panels, called collectors, fitted to the roof. These collect heat from the sun and use it to heat up water which is stored in a hot water cylinder. There are two types of solar water heating panels: - Evacuated tubes - Flat plate collectors, which can be fixed on the roof tiles or integrated into the roof.

What are Mechanical Heat Recovery Ventilation Systems?

Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) is a whole house ventilation system that both supplies and extracts air throughout a property. It offers a balanced low energy ventilation solution for new dwellings and re-uses up to 95% of the heat that would have otherwise have been lost.

What is the difference between PAS 2030 and PAS 2035?

PAS 2035 is an overarching framework for preparing plans for domestic retrofit projects in the UK. Any retrofit designs that emerge from its specifications must be installed in accordance with the requirements outlined in PAS 2030.

PAS 2030 is a certification which businesses can achieve to demonstrate the compliance of their installations. Unlike PAS 2030, PAS 2035 is not a certification; it is a standard that sets out the specifications which compliant retrofitting must meet. Both PAS documents are to be taken as a whole and closely relate to each other.

They are a strong partner and their collaborative approach has been to their credit, they work with you not just for you!
